You can stop the update this way: Turn off your Automatic Update feature.
How to Disable Windows XP Automatic Update:
1. Click your START BUTTON
2. Click on the Control Panel.
3. Click System
4. Select that TAB that says: Automatic Updates
5. Un-check the box that says: “Keep my computer up to date”
6. Click OK.
